The Ardensingers of historic Arden DE will be performing their fall 2017 production of “A Gilbert & Sullivan Cinderella,” a musical comedy telling the traditional “Cinderella from November 11-18, 2017. This adaptation of the traditional Cinderella fairy tale, authored by current Ardensinger Paula Gonzalez of Newark, DE, is set to popular Gilbert & Sullivan music, while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original story.

Paula Gonzalez was inspired to write the show for the Ardensingers after performing in several of their Gilbert & Sullivan productions and one G&S based panto called “The Sleeping Beauty of Savoy,” written by Cynthia Morey and John Fryatt. The Ardensingers so enjoyed the latter production that their board looked for similar librettos to consider for future shows, only to find there unfortunately are none. Not one to be deterred, Gonzalez decided to write her own.

“I had rewritten lyrics to popular songs before, so I felt it was something I was capable of doing, just on a much larger scale. And who better to write it for than a group I have been performing with since 2011?” said Gonzalez.

The characters of Cinderella are both found in most typical versions of the Cinderella story and are also modeled on G&S characters. In addition, G&S aficionados may recognize some humorous G&S references. However, Cinderella stands on its own as a panto, and familiarity with G&S shows is, in no way, a prerequisite for enjoying the show. Characters featured of course include Cinderella, her Fairy Godmother, her father Sgt. Merryl, her step-mother Dame Carruthers, step-sisters Edith and Kate, Prince Hilarion, his mother and father, the Queen and King Hildebrand respectively, and their page Luiz.

You won’t want to miss this opportunity to be among the first to see “Cinderella”! The show will be performed 11, 17, & 18 at 8:00 pm and November 12 & 18 at 2:00 pm. at the theatre at the Arden Gild Hall, 2126 The Highway, Arden DE 19810.
