Who doesn’t like to get down and dirty? In mud, that is. A chance to squish, climb, crawl, slip and slide…into the mirky, filthy, stinky mud puddles South of the Canal in Delaware. Leave your dignity and grace at the start line.

“It’s intimidating at first” says Monica Pammer, a local amateur mudder, “but then you look around at everyone else covered in mud too, flick off the mud(in the important areas) and keep on going – it’s hysterical so much so, it didn’t even feel like exercise. You definitely test your edurance in a whole new way and even better, it’s for a great cause. I’d definitely do it again. ” When asked about tips for novice mudders Monica suggested “1. Gear – long pants but steer clear of sweats – absorbing cotton or sweats are the enemy – try leggings or tight fitting pants. Definitely choose pants over shorts – you’ll need leg protection and grip during climbs, crawls and slips. 2. Hair -put up the do, if you can. You might find mud in your scalp days after, but at least you’ll be able to see the course during(except for the mud that is). 3. Have Fun! These races unlike most are not competitive. You might get pushed down but it’s all in good muddy fun. ” Thanks Monica!

HISTORY & ABOUT MUD RUNS

Mud Runs have become the hot trend across the U.S. over the last 10 years.  According to Brett Stewart, author of Obstacle Race Training – The Book, “these runs offer more fast-paced thrill to the adventure seeker than the average marathon or triathlon.” Stewart also states “Their popularity continues to surge: in 2012, over 100 events are scheduled across the United States, Canada, and Britain, ranging from kid-friendly short sprints to the extreme 48-hour Spartan Death Race. ”  Yes, there are several types of Mud Runs – Obstacle, Adventure, Scavenger, Racer, Themed, Hybrids – so if you’re even remotely interested, you are bound to find one to meet your personal thrill seeking endurance level.
