Christmas trees take many shapes, but all have wonderful ornaments lights that decorate the season with brilliance.

Below are some local tree lighting ceremonies for kids of all ages to enjoy!

Saturday, November 26Christmas Tree Lighting

Delaware City at 6 p.m.

Battery Park is the place to be to see lights in Delaware City.  It’s also the culmination of Small Business Saturday in town.

Thursday, December 1

Wilmington at 11 a.m.

Enjoy a tree lighting ceremony in Wilmington.

Friday, December 2

Newark from 6-8 p.m.

Winterfest includes holiday entertainment, roasting chestnuts, caroling, tree lighting, ice carving demonstrations, and more.

Holiday Open HouseWilmington from 6-9 p.m.

Holiday Open House @ Rockwood Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6pm

Bring your family out for the 16th annual Holiday Open House with live entertainment, children’s activities, costumed characters, refreshments and FREE photos with Santa!

The event also includes our Youth Entrepreneur’s Secret Santa Shoppe, selling gifts for the whole family, tours of the holiday display in the museum and a festive light display in the gardens surrounding the Mansion and Carriage House. This is a weekend long celebration with the tree lighting at 6pm on Friday night.

Saturday, December 3Claymont Christmas Weed 2011

Claymont at 10 a.m.

While there is no formal tree, the famous Christmas Weed Decorating Ceremony is held on the lawn of the Church of the Ascension.  The Weed is then placed on Philadelphia Pike.

Thursday, December 8

New Castle from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The Commonwealth Emory Hill Development Corporation and the American Cancer Society invite you to a special tree lighting ceremony of celebration and remembrance.  The trees will be located along Commons Boulevard on the grounds in front of 92 Read’s Way.  For a suggested donation of $10 an ornament will
be hung “In Memory of” or “In Honor of” someone special who has been touched by cancer.  That person’s name or your special message will be displayed on your ornament.

The trees will be lit every evening until December 31st to remember those who have lost their fight against cancer, to honor those who have survived the battle or are currently fighting cancer.

Elsmere at 6 p.m.

Elsmere will officially kick-off its festive season in front of Town Hall.

Friday, December 9Tree Lighting Glasgow Park 2016

Glasgow Park from 6-9 p.m.

The tree lighting will be at 7 p.m. at the Glasgow Park Bank Barn.  There will be music, refreshments, bonfires, make-and-take crafts, and Santa’s Workshop.  Don’t forget to bring your camera to take a picture with Santa!  New this year: Festive Holiday Market featuring gifts, local foods, holiday decorations, and more.
