And the Hometown Hero Winners are…

Members of our community were asked to nominate volunteers, community leaders and medical professionals who deserve to be recognized for their extraordinary commitment to fight cancer and their efforts toward supporting the mission of your American Cancer Society.  Our nominees should stand out in the areas of saving lives from this disease, fundraising or providing comfort and services to cancer patients.

We received a number of very qualified nominees and are proud to announce the 2013 recipients of this award.

Volunteer: Carla Bricotto

Carla has been one of the driving forces on the Relay For Life Committee of Middletown and a long standing volunteer with your American Cancer Society.  She has served in many capacities throughout her tenure of service including Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and her most recent venture of securing Relay Recesses to engage youth in healthy choices and making a difference.  Carla is not only an inspiration and a go getter but she too is a cancer survivor. Congratulations Carla!

Community Leader: First State Prostate Support Group

First State Prostate Support Group began its humble beginnings as an American Cancer Society Man to Man support group and has grown to a far reaching community support group known as First State Prostate Support Group, a multi-state support system where men and their loved ones have a safe place to discuss their questions, concerns and needs.  The passion and drive the members have for those facing the diagnosis of cancer have extended the quality of life for so many. Congratulations First State Prostate Support Group!
