Wilmington Art Loop December 2016Art Loops

It’s the first Friday of the month and that means Art Loops in both Wilmington and New Castle!  Art Loop Wilmington brings together art lovers and community to the ever-evolving downtown and greater Wilmington areas.  Art galleries, studios, museums, and alternative art spaces offer a FREE opportunity to meet the featured artist(s) while enjoying refreshments, and in some cases live entertainment.  In Old New Castle, you can stroll the streets of Delaware’s Hidden Treasure to experience great Art, Food, Wine, Friends, and Fun!  Walk through town visiting galleries, artisanal displays, and unique objets d’art while snacking and sipping wine — can it get any better?

Head to the Academy Lawn in downtown Newark to enjoy holiday cheer, roasting chestnuts, caroling, live musical performances, ice carving demonstrations, and much more to fill this wonderful evening of fun for the whole family.  The festivities kick off at 6 o’clock.

St. Thomas’s in Newark is selling crafts, fresh baked goods, cookie trays, quarts of homemade soups, St. Thomas’s t-shirts and hoodies, second-hand Christmas decorations, and exclusive new items!  Oh, and Santa Claus will visit on Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. for breakfast and pictures — all for a nominal fee!  The Bazaar runs from Friday through Sunday.  Don’t miss out!

Movies on Tap at Penn Cinema features a meet-and-greet tasting opportunity with some of the area’s most beloved brewers while providing a rare opportunity to view cult-classic films on the big screen.  This month, the featured film is the holiday comedy classic “Christmas Vacation.”  Attendees will have a unique opportunity to hang out with a local brewer; sample and learn about their beer; and then watch the movie.  A portion of the proceeds from each event will help benefit the brewer’s charity of choice!  Doors open at 6:30 and the movie starts at 7.

Holiday Open House at Rockwood

Bring your family out for the 16th annual Holiday Open House with live entertainment, children’s activities, costumed characters, refreshments and FREE photos with Santa!  The event also includes a Youth Entrepreneur’s Secret Santa Shoppe, selling gifts for the whole family, tours of the holiday display in the museum, and a festive light display in the gardens surrounding the Mansion and Carriage House.  The event runs Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.Holiday Open House

This December, City Theater Company transforms The Black Box into a sizzling nightclub for La Cage Aux Folles.  Producing Artistic Director Michael Gray promises an over-the-top romp for the hilarious musical comedy by Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman.  Hijinks ensue for couple Georges and Albin when their son brings home his fiancee — and her super-conservative parents — to the Saint-Tropez drag nightclub they run.  One of Broadway’s most beloved shows, it’s a song-and-dance extravaganza with a heartwarming message about love and family that grounds the comic antics.  Kick up your heels, and the holidays, with CTC from December 2 to 17!

Chesapeake City’s season-long Victorian Christmas celebration takes place on both sides of the C&D Canal with a blizzard of holiday lights and spectacular lighted displays along the north and south waterfronts.  Come see the lights.  Listen to the carolers.  Bring the children to Santa’s Workshop in historic Franklin Hall.  See the beautifully decorated homes and porch decorating competition.  Visit the quaint shops and celebrate the season in world-renowned restaurants while in town. The festival runs every weekend through December 18.

Take part in a community-wide event with Christmas activities being held at the Bellevue Community Center, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, and the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.  The holiday fun includes a Winter Wonderland, Christmas bazaar, vendor fair, a store for parents, holiday crafts and activities for kids, free hot cocoa and cookies, holiday music, plus pictures with Santa Claus!
