World Cafe Live @ The Queen has a fantastic line-up of shows this month & is definitley earning their name “The Queen”.

Citizen Cope, one of my all time favorites, is performing two (2) sold out shows this week.  “SOLD OUT”, I love to see that sign, it symbolizes more than just a good act in town it also means that the City is thriving.  This month flew by and  I neglected to get myself some tickets, but  I’m happy that I was able to catch his show last year.  You betcha I’ll be on the look-out for Cope’s next visit to our fair City!  In the meantime, I’ll look forward to some of the other fabulous special events that The Queen will be hosting for the rest of the month.

Check out the amazing list of shows happening in the next few weeks.  The information  below was taken directly from the World Cafe Live  web-site.  Please keep in mind that they have many other daily/weekly events that you should know about.  Please look to  the web-site for more information about all of their events.

Big Sam’s Funky Nation

Thursday, February 23, 2012 | Doors 7:00 pm | Show 8:00 pm | Downstairs Live

Big Sam’s Funky Nation is a driving force of urban funk. Ryan White, of the Oregonian, says the band is “tight enough (and hot enough) to turn coal into a diamond!” The band is led by trombone powerhouse, Big Sam Williams, formerly the trombonist for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, who the San Francisco Chronicle calls “the top man on the slide trombone in the birthplace of jazz.” Big Sam refuses to let the audience sit still. Between the band’s solos, Big Sam’s signature dance moves and his distinctive trombone riffs, the energy level is high voltage when this band takes the stage!

An Evening With Patrizio Buanne

Saturday, February 25, 2012 | Doors 6:30 pm | Show 8:00 pm | Downstairs Live

Patrizio Buanne spent his childhood between his hometown in Naples, Italy and Vienna, Austria. This multi-cultural upbringing sparked in Patrizio an early passion for languages, and by the age of 17 he already spoke fluent Italian, German, English, French and Spanish. But whilst his aptitude for languages is admirable, a much greater gift, apparent from an early age, was emerging – his gift to be able to sing and entertain people.

In 2004, Patrizio approached a producer with the concept of recording with an orchestra comprising a collection of romantic and fun songs from the Italian songbook. His international debut albums, “The Italian” (2005) and “Forever Begins Tonight” (2007), were finished at Abbey Road Studios in London, accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Following international promotions, Patrizio’s albums were certified platinum in South Africa, across Asia, New Zealand and several European countries and even reached triple platinum status in Australia.

The next phase: a global recording contract with Warner Music in the US, and the recording of Patrizio’s third album. Its first release in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and South Africa by Warner Music in September 2009 was responded with not only platinum awards but with an immediate tour schedule for Austral-Asia in May 2010 and a preparation for his European and US release in 2011. But what quality separates

Patrizio from other great artists? Is it the natural grace of his voice? The confident,

casual, respectful attention that he gives his audience? Or is it just the basic trust

he evokes in people? Italy has provided a simple word to describe all of the above; “simpatico.”

Buckwheat Zydeco

Monday, February 27, 2012 | Doors 7:00 pm | Show 8:00 pm | Downstairs Live
Buckwheat Zydeco has been carrying the torch for his eponymous music for more than three decades. He is a fine accordionist, but there’s always been more to his sound. Functioning brilliantly outside the confines of zydeco, he is a gutsy pianist and organist who earned his stripes in a funk/soul band. Buckwheat Zydeco is a bona-fide roots music legend and the new album “Lay Your Burden Down” proves that the old dog still has a few tricks up his sleeve. Although long-time fans will revel in zydeco’s playful accordion-bashing and friendly vocals, “Lay Your Burden Down” is more than just another Fat Tuesday soundtrack album. Featuring a number of great vocal performances on a wide range of challenging rock, blues, and soul material, zydeco exceeds expectations and, after thirty years in the trenches, shows that he can still surprise and educate his audience as well as entertain them.

The Carolina Chocolate Drops are Dom Flemons, Rhiannon Giddens and Hubby Jenkins. The band formed after founding members Dom Flemons, Rhiannon Giddens, and Justin Robinson met at the Black Banjo Gathering in Boone, North Carolina, in 2005. All three trained in the Piedmont banjo and fiddle musical tradition under the tutelage of Joe Thompson, who, at age 90, is believed to be the last living performer from the Piedmont string band heyday.
