As a child spinning his parents’ 45s in their California home, Chris Isaak has been obsessed with the glory days of Memphis’ Sun Studio and the visionary artists who got their starts there including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. These artists have, over time, shaped Isaak’s enduring sound as a singer-songwriter and guitarist. His career has spanned from his rockabilly-influenced group called Silvertone, to numerous acting roles and his successful solo recordings. Most popular for his song “Wicked Game” used in the film Wild at Heart, Isaak is widely known for his showmanship, charisma and high energy level in his performances.
In 2011, Isaak had a chance to pay tribute to the classic ‘50s rockabilly and country music stars who first inspired him. His album, Beyond the Sun, gets down to the heart and soul of his own deeply rooted musical identity, with tracks such as “It’s Now or Never,” “Great Balls of Fire,” and “Ring of Fire” (just to name a few). The Guardian calls Isaak’s most recent release a “barn-burning revue that walks the line between well-drilled musical authenticity and disarming self-awareness.”
