kids eatingTurn those Frowns Upside Down

The summertime can be stressful for families on a budget.  The families who rely on school provided meals so that their kids will be properly nurished. The parents who can’t afford Day Care or who feel their children are missing out because they can’t pay the price of admission for summer camp.  Most camps are in the $200- $300 range per child ~ imagine having 3 kids, that’s $600-$900 a week.

We found a few solutions to these challenges…

FREE Summer Food Program for Kids

If you know 5 kids in your neighborhood, then you probably know at least 1 that is hungry.  The odds are crazy right – 1 in 5 kids go hungry.  Well, there’s no reason for children ages 18 and under to go hungry this summer.  Please tell everyone you know that the Christina School District’s Summer Lunch Crew will be participating in the 2013 Summer Food Service Program June 18 – August 1, 2013. The federally-funded program provides FREE breakfasts and lunches during the summer months and will be available Monday through Thursday at the sites listed below. The District’s popular Family Dinner nights will be offered at Bayard Middle School in Wilmington and Brookside and Brader Elementary Schools in Newark.

The Christina Summer Lunch Crew meal program is unique in that the meal sites are monitored by Child Nutrition Services personnel. Students are served nutritional meals, featuring many of their school year favorites, in a safe environment with trained personnel.

The Summer Food Program is a federal program of the Food and Nutrition Services, United States Department of Agriculture.

Who is Eligible?

All children 18 years of age and under are eligible to receive FREE meals. No need to apply for the program – just bring yourself and enjoy tasty and nutritious meals.
