May is National BBQ Month!

Finger licking, brow beating, toe stomping kinda fun! Outdoor barbecuing is an American tradition and who doesn’t love a good BBQ?  The smells naturally draw me in  – this weekend {Friday thru Sunday} you can by-pass the chore of fixin’ and just follow your nose to the Middletown BBQ Cook Off. Raise $ | Relax | Enjoy BBQ – Delaware Style!

Celebrate this National Celebration LOCALLY at the 3rd Annual Middletown BBQ Cook Off at Frightland at 309 Port Penn Road in Middletown just east of Route 1.

This is one family event we keep hearing you will not want to miss.  There is an incredible variety of food & craft vendors, a stage with live entertainment all 3 days from 7 different bands, a special appearance by LOCAL favorite Ashley Forrest,  a car show and wing eating contest. Many regional artists and craftsman will also take part in the festivities offering jewelry, pottery and artwork. Children & Parents alike can enjoy not only the people watching but also the wide selection of amusement rides, slides and games.  What’s more, the Cook-Off itself is sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and will draw in over 50 teams to compete in a 4 meat contest(chicken, ribs, pork & brisket) . There is also an Amateur DE event. NOTE: This is the only BBQ competition in the State of Delaware with $6,000 in Prize Moolah. That’s a direct pass to Lynchburg TN – The ultimate goal for most pit masters on the BBQ circuit. The competition is hot!

Goals for the Middletown BBQ Cook Off are pretty simple.

  • Raise money for local Scholarships
